Our Roots
How We Became Ruca's
Some of my fondest memories growing up are the summers I spent in beautiful Bear Lake. My family's roots here run deep. My ancestors were among the early settlers of St. Charles, and my great-uncles were some of the first to purchase property along the shores of Bear Lake. From as far back as I can remember, I always wanted to spend as much time here as possible. When it was time to go home, I never wanted to leave!
That lifelong love for Bear Lake is one of the many reasons I dreamed of building something special in this community. After spending 19 years in customer service, I discovered that making people feel welcome and cared for was more than just a job—it was a passion. Paired with my love for cooking, I knew I wanted to create something that brought those two worlds together.
One summer, while sitting on my mom's deck and looking out over the breathtaking blue waters of Bear Lake, the idea finally came to me. What if I could combine the things I love most—family, food, hospitality, and this beautiful place—and turn them into something meaningful? Something that could be a dream come true for me while also creating a special place for my family, friends, and community to enjoy.
And just like that, Ruca's was born.
More than just a café, Ruca's is a little piece of my heart—a place inspired by generations of family memories, a lifelong love for Bear Lake, and the simple joy of bringing people together over good food and good company.
